    Research Interest:

Two goals are involved in my research (1) MOLECULAR GENTICS OF INSECTICIDE RESISTANT: To clone and identify genes involved in insecticide resistance, genetic and molecular manipulation of resistance function genes; incorporation of biological materials such as enzymes, antibodies, microorganisms, tissues and receptors, as sensing elements makes the ordinarily used transducer more selective and sensitive. A goal of Dr. Qiao's research is to develop new genes, enzyme, whole cell, etc. based specific, sensitive, rapid to detoxify pesticides in environment, fruits and vegetables. (2) BIODETOXIFICATION: Biological methods of detoxification provide an environmentally friendly and economical alternative to the conventional methods presently available. Dr. Qiao's laboratory is also active in the area of biodetoxification of wastewaters contaminated with highly toxic pesticides and organic chemicals using novel immobilized genetically-engineered cell bioreactors and genetically-engineered enzymes.
