I obtained Master and Ph.D degrees in Entomology both from South China Agricultural University. And my Ph.D work was focused on the screening of insecticidal plants and identification of active components from plants. Having received my PhD degree in June 2001, I focused my research on bioorganic and natural products chemistry to broaden my knowledge. I had Post Doctoral research work with the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC) in August, 2001 for two and a half years under the supervision of Prof. Yu-Lin Wu.
I came to Auburn University in Feb., 2004 for two main research projects on phorid fly - fire ant interactions and on interspecific competition between specialist parasitic wasp Microplitis croceipes and generalist parasitic wasp Cotesia marginiventris. The major techniques I had been using were EAG, GC-EAD, GC-MS, SSR, SEM and TEM.
After an eight-month stay at Beijing Forestry University, I joined Institute of Zoology in Sep., 2009. My research uses a broad based multidisciplinary approach (analytical, behavioral, electrophysiological, and neurobiological techniques) to investigate various aspects of insect olfaction and communication that would lead to better understanding of the physiological mechanisms underlying the odor reception and processing. A current project is on identification of trail pheromones and alarm pheromones of imported fire ants and pheromone-mediated behavior.

Research Interests:
Insect Neurophysiology, chemical ecology of insects, behavioral ecology, co-evolution of plant - herbivore - natural enemy, semiochemical - mediated behavior of insects, botanical insecticides.
