  白明,男,博士,中国科学院特聘研究员,中国科学院动物研究所鞘翅目形态与进化研究组组长、研究员,中国科学院大学教授,博士生导师,中华人民共和国濒危物种科学委员会委员,德国洪堡学者,国家重点研发计划项目首席,北京朝阳凤凰人才计划领军人才。已在国内外发表学术论文200余篇,其中以第一或通讯作者在Cell、Nature Communications、Science Advances、Current Biology、Methods in Ecology and Evolution等SCI杂志发表文章100余篇,申请专利6项、软著2项、行标1项,专著四部。曾获2019年度中国科学院青年科学家国际合作伙伴奖,2016年度周尧昆虫分类学奖励基金一等奖,中国昆虫学会第五届青年科技奖,新疆建设兵团科学技术进步奖三等奖。曾主持科技部国家重点研发计划项目、国家自然基金委国合重点基金、中国科学院一带一路专项、香港生物多样性专项、海南崖州湾种子实验室揭榜挂帅、贵州科技支撑计划等项目。2023年“一带一路”地区昆虫多样性格局评估与智能监测体系关键技术培训班召集人(新闻:http://www.ioz.ac.cn/gb2018/xwdt/yw/202311/t20231102_6914459.html)。

研究领域:

  通过开发原创的新技术,致力于解析物种两个属性(连续性和间断性)的矛盾和统一问题,构建新的研究范式,揭示昆虫起源与进化机制,推动下一代生物分类学发展。主要学术成绩有:①构建物种形态定量化革命性新方法体系,研发几何形态学多特征整合新软件和3D形态新硬件,开发深度哈希表型编码网络PENet,开启分类学的多维定量智能时代;②构建我国最大的昆虫模式标本数据库,验证不完全谱系分选引发的特征进化事件,引领物种形态间断性的定量刻画、新种假说可靠验证的新研究模式;③确立百年来世界第四个昆虫纲新目,引领高级阶元形态连续性的定量描绘、进化分类理论假说检验新范式。创立了首个世界甲虫智能鉴定系统(甲天下),创制保存高质量DNA的昆虫野外监测装置WET,并将快速智能鉴定方法应用于入侵害虫智能监测技术体系,重点解决海关系统快速鉴定和快速通关的技术难点和痛点。研究成果弥合了分类学与综合进化论之间的巨大鸿沟,推动了昆虫系统学现代化进程。

研究工作概述

  近年来,逐渐凝练出“推动经典分类学向下一代分类学”这一宏大的科学目标。为实现这一目标,需要通过形态学的现代化再造(四个现代化)来实现,即数据获取的现代化、性状模拟的现代化、数据分析的现代化、物种鉴定的现代化等四个方面。

  • 数据获取的现代化

  我们与合作者共同提出了生物结构微纳尺度三维形态特征获取与定量分析的整合性解决方案。第一,我们与中国科学院深圳先进技术研究院已合作研发了显微CT装备,该仪器已在动物所安装完毕且使用正常。第二,目前正在与中国科学院西安光机所合作研发结构光照明显微镜,该仪器在微小动物形态的高分辨快速成像方面的应用,已入选“2016年度中国光学重要进展”提名。

  • 性状模拟的现代化

  利用同步辐射、显微CT、计算机三维重建和有限元等方法,对动物形态特征的模拟及功能解读开展了创新性研究。例如,发现了昆虫纲化石新目——奇翅目(Alienoptera)的确立(Bai et al. 2016, Gondwana Research; Bai et al. 2018, Current Biology),缅甸琥珀中发现的栉蚕支持冈瓦纳起源生物通过“欧洲扩散”假说扩散到劳亚古陆 (Oliveira et al. 2016, Current Biology),首次在琥珀中发现鸟类(Xing et al. 2016, Nature Comm.),首次在缅甸琥珀中发现恐龙(Xing et al. 2016, Current Biology);通过螳虫脩胸部肌肉重建,对新翅类系统发育关系进行推断;对金龟总科后翅关节骨片的三维形态变异进行分析,探讨了后翅关节的功能形态;对金龟前足胫节、上颚、后翅关节骨片等特征的三维形态进行有限元模拟,进而对其功能形态学进行定量模拟与分析。

  • 数据分析的现代化

  综合几何形态学、支序系统学等方法,对金龟和蛩蠊部分形态结构形态变异与进化进行了分析,发现了新的现象或有力证实了相关假说。例如,证实了后翅可作为系统发育重建的直接证据;发现了现生蛩蠊前胸背板明显比古生蛩蠊形态多样性低;蜣螂滚粪球行为除了对前胸背板、足等与滚粪球行为高度相关的外部结构具有显著影响外,还对众多内部形态结构具有广泛的影响;粪食性蜣螂可能起源于杂食性的祖先;白星花金龟前胸背板和鞘翅上的花斑,反映了地理种群间的形态距离。与中国科学院软件所合作研发几何形态学新软件,主要解决了多特征几何形态数据的整合问题(网址为http://beetle.ioz.ac.cn/gm/,该网站可以免费处理tps格式几何形态学数据整合,每次可以整合五个tps,如果多于五个形态性状几何形态学数据集,可以分步完成数据整合过程)。

  • 物种鉴定的现代化

  在核对了来自世界上大多数著名博物馆的大量定名标本和模式标本的基础上,对中国现生及古生金龟(蜣螂、犀金龟、长臂金龟、绢金龟、花金龟、锹甲和丽金龟等类群)和世界蛩蠊进行了分类学修订工作。完成中国动物志蜣螂亚科卷,发表了我国第2种蛩蠊、奇翅目(化石新目)、3个化石新科。

  在上述分类学的基础上,利用几何形态学方法,基于世界2.7万种甲虫的前胸背板和鞘翅的外缘形态,证实连续性性状也承载了分类学信息,进而为物种自动鉴定系统的开发奠定了理论基础。再结合形态快速获取新仪器和多特征融合的新软件,将为可靠性高、兼容性好和实际应用场景多样的物种自动鉴定系统的研发向前推进了一大步。
